How Do I Get Myself Tested For Adult Add?

I’m 25 and completely absent minded, disorganized, and I lack focus across the board. Sometimes, it’s hard for me to concentrate. I think I may have a problem. I want to see what my options are.
Do I need to go to a psychiatrist? Does health insurance normally cover this type of evaluation? What does the evaluation consist of?

Hi MML
Hopefully you’re not a member of the same club that i belong to but if you are welcome to it .
Go to http://www.oneADDplace.com/addcheck.html and take the test
Also try http://www.add.org
Health insurance does cover the ADD diagnosis and the Americans With Disabilities Act -the ADA- covers discrimination against people w/ ADD
As both the links that i gave you will tell you , it is important that you find a health care practioner that is very familiar with the ins and outs of ADD in adults
Good luck

psychologist…. see you primary care physician and ask for a referral to see a phych…. you need to call your insurance company and see if that is the procedure and if they will cover it… most will

you’ll need your family physican to make a referral to a psychiatrist probably. Thats probably your best bet. he or she will get you in contact with the appropriate help.
    an evaluation should be covered.

The following questionnaire can be used as a starting point to help you recognize the signs/symptoms of adult ADD but is not meant to replace consultation with a trained healthcare professional. An accurate diagnosis can only be made through a clinical evaluation. Regardless of the questionnaire results, if you have concerns about diagnosis and treatment of ADD, please discuss your concerns with your physician.

Start with a nutritionist and then a personal exercise trainer. There are many alternatives to tuning your energy and attention skill other than psychotropic medications.
You don’t need medication. You need an engaging work environment, stimulating friends and colleagues and a total absence of television and pop culture.
It is much too early in life for you to surrender to a pharma dependency.

No, but you should make an appointment to see a psychologist, if possibly the school psychologist at your school, who can then do the psychological testing to see if a diagnosis with the condition is for you appropriate. As for your health insurance, if you have to involve a private psychologist and do so with the practitioner being referred to by your pediatrician, odds are it will be covered at least in part by your health insurance.

The evaluation consists of multiple hearing speaking and writing tests from your doc. There is no psychiatrist involved, just pills from tha doc. And, Yeah, health insurance covers it. That’s all I know.

start with your medical dr. you may need a referral, and then a psychiatrist is the one who does the assessment
